First Snow In Denver

I usually tell everyone that Halloween Week/Weekend is when we get the first snow in Denver. This year was no exception. It actually sounds pretty nasty out there right now. The weatherman said it is supposed to snow again on Thursday of this coming week. We will have to get Destin a few snowball tosses before all of it melts.
It was a good weekend, although Sheri is still in a lot of pain from her root canal. If it continues through tomorrow, she is going to call the dentist and see if there is anything majorly wrong.
Destin went as a lion for Halloween. Grandma and Grandpa Stackpole came up for brunch at Mimi's Cafe. They got him some jello cups, peeps, and a few individual Ben & Jerry ice creams cups for his Halloween treats. His big gift was a walker that has a big car for it's base. It is a pretty neat deal, and will be a nice balance beam for him as he practices standing and walking.
We retired his baby gym yesterday. He still got some use out of it. When he crawled by, his arm or knee would catch it, and it would become a trailer. It went bye-bye, but we kept "the star" from the top, which was his favorite part; so the loss hasn't been too hard to bear.
This is another busy week coming up. We should be alright, maybe the snow will slow us down.
I had a pretty geeky night. I put created three more photo albums. I'm trying to catch up! Photos from our Philly Trip, shots from Destin's first haircut, and some pics of him after his surgery are available.
I hope that everyone had a fun and safe Halloween!

14 Months today
Time marches on! His neurological appointment went as expected. The doctor didn't really tell us anything we didn't already know. We are going to take Destin back for a MRI just to be thorough. The doc recommended going to physcial therapy once a week. We are going to get Dr. Dickerson's and Becky's(Early Childhood Connections) thoughts on PT before we schedule anything.
Other then the trip to Children's today was pretty mellow. Sheri has still been having some residual pain from the root canal. Hopefully she will be better in the morning.
We are ready for the festive weekend!

Taking The Turn
We are rapidly approaching the end of our busy week. It's gone by pretty fast.
Yesterday, the lunch outing was a good time. Destin got a neat elephant from Brianna. Sheri and Delane had a good chat.
Today, Grandma Stackpole came up again as Sheri had round 2 of her root canals. The three of them when to the park, and hung out most of the day. Sheri is in a little pain after the dental work, but she will live.
Tomorrow we have Destin's neurological appointment. We aren't expecting anything out-of-the-ordinary to come up, but I'll keep you posted either way.
Good night!

Soccer Stud
Destin had a good Monday. He had his visit from Becky. She wanted us to try some things to get him more comfortable with sippee cups. Starting next month, she is going to come by every Tuesday instead of Monday.
The D-man went to the first half of Sheri's soccer scrimmage. I picked him up and took him home for some dinner.
Tomorrow Sheri and Destin are going to lunch in Boulder with Delane and Brianna. They should have a good time.

A Busy One Coming Up
We finished out the weekend pretty well. Destin and I had a nice afternoon baching it. Sheri and I had homemade calzones for dinner...MMMMMMM...
The week ahead is looking pretty busy. I have some deadlines at work to hit, and Sheri has soccer, dentist appointments, a haircut, and a couple lunches. Destin will be pretty mellow. He has his neurology appointment on Thursday, and Karter is coming over to play on Friday.
Hopefully we will all make it through until Halloween, or we may not need costumes.

The Great Pumpkin
Today we went to a pumpkin patch at Berry Patch Farms to get Destin a pumpkin for Halloween. It was a pretty cool deal although they were a little disorganized.
We got a couple of great looking pumpkins, snapped a few photos, and headed home. The carving won't start until later this week so that our jack-o-lanterns don't become wrinkly faced.
"The Fritz" is all over the place now. He crawls out of his room when he hears us in another room. He'll crawl down the hall to get to his toys. The only thing he hasn't mastered yet is the kitchen floor. When he gets to the end of the carpet, he'll stop and bang on the floor. It's pretty funny.
Sheri had a soccer game today. They won. The team has their pictures tomorrow, so Destin and I will have some more bachelor time.

Stretch Destin
It's been neat to see Destin explore his territory. He had a different day today. Sheri started her dental construction journey today, so Grandma Stackpole came up to help. The D-man definitely knew something was up with his mama, because he really missed her today.
I noticed last night that the pea packer is getting big. That makes me sound like some out of touch father. I walk him around our place a little bit after his last bottle and before he goes to bed. When we were walking I noticed that his head is almost above mine when I was holding him. It's really neat to see...:-)

Movin' and Shakin'
So now I'm back in the saddle. I didn't get much time for the site this weekend, I was actually looking around for a new home for thehirschfam.com, but more on that at a later time.
Destin had a great day today. He crawled down the hall, to get his "bee" toy. Becky (from Early Childhood Connections) and Sheri cheered him on this morning. He crawled across his room for me. I was trying to get him changed, and he was wanting to get to his toys.
He has been hyper lately. He is almost doing somersaults. We still bring him into our bed in the morning before he has his breakfast. He used to be mellow during this time, now he'll rollover and smack me in the face and laugh; he'll kick Sheri in the head; and try to knock alarmclocks, monitors, water bottles, and tv remotes off of nightstands. No target is safe...:-)
It seems that the next few weeks are going to ones of discovery for the little guy. Not that the past year hasn't been, but I believe that he is going to start learning things real fast. A pea packer Renaissance, if you will.
Hopefully my fingers will be able to keep up...

Stay tuned...
Hello everyone. Sorry to leave you hanging over the weekend. We had a few things going on. Everything is peachy, and I'm hoping to tell you all about it tomorrow night...or...today, whichever comes first.
Hasta!

A Nice Day
It was a beautiful fall day here in Colorado. I was lucky enough to be outside at a company sponsored golf outing. Our team did pretty good, and had a lot of fun. How could you not? Sheri and Destin got to the park to enjoy the weather as well.
We lowered his crib mattress tonight because of his crawling. Like I said yesterday, it's still not his main mode of transportation, but he's getting more and more comfortable with it.
Grandma Stackpole is coming up tomorrow afternoon to watch "The Fritz". Sheri has her preliminary dentist visit to kick off the overhaul she is going to have.

More Mobility
We are marking today as the first day that Destin crawled. He has been so close for so long, but today was the day when he actually made forward progress. The roll and the scoot are still his main modes of transportation, but we could see the crawl rise to the top soon.
Becky from Early Childhood Connections came by today. She is going to come every week now, since we are settled in after the surgery.
We watched the Tennessee/Green Bay game tonight. GO TITANS!!! It was nice to see a win. The season has been a tough one.
Anyway, somebody is hungry, duty calls. Talk to you soon!

He Likes To Boogie
The weekend has been nice. I made some chili today for dinner. It turned out pretty good.
Destin has been great. He's in bed with Mama right now. I was just in there with both of them. It's supposed to be sleepy time, so Sheri is calming him down.
He was wound up. He would look at both of us and them stuff his head into the pillows and laugh; it was humorous. It's a shame he doesn't like to play.
Tomorrow we have a pretty chill day planned, and unlike last weekend, I believe it's going to stay that way, but I'll keep you posted.

FREEDOM!!!
The visit with Dr. Allen went great today. NO MORE ARM BANDS!! :-) He also said that Destin is healing very nicely, and by this time they would be about to tell if there was a fistula. He didn't see one, so we are 99.9% in the clear. We scheduled another check up in 3 months, just so Dr. Allen could get another look see.
The D-man is able to have solid foods again. Sheri started him with Peach Cobbler. He ate the whole jar! We gave him some green beans this evening and he ate that whole jar. Looks like he's going to continue to pack it away.
It's been a good week. It's amazing that this is all behind us. What do we have to look forward to now? :-) ...Plenty...

Beefcake
Destin is having another record breaking day. He has 1016 calories with one more feeding to go.
Play group was good. Sheri and Destin met some cool people. The kids that were there interacted well, and Sheri said a couple of the girls brought toys to Destin. Already a heart throb! The head lady said that she was going to start one in the Westminster area, so we will probably go to that one from now on.
I'll keep you posted on what Dr. Allen says tomorrow, but right now I've got to go feed the pea packer. He's very hungry these days. :-)

Little Piggy
Destin has broken his eating record again today. 900 calories. He still may get another meal in. I'm going to check on him before I hit the sack.
It's been a good week. Becky from Early Childhood Connections came by yesterday to check on him. Today, Sheri and he went to the park to hang out a little bit. It's been beautiful weather-wise.
Tomorrow, Sheri and Destin are going to go to a play group in the area. We are curious to see how this works out. Destin is definitely very social, and is around "his friends" quite a bit. It should be interesting to see how he interacts with being around a lot more kids at one time.
Then, Thursday, we get those stupid arm bands off. FINALLY! I don't want to get ahead of that, but I think I'm looking more forward to it then Destin is.
I also have to say a big thank you that was forgotten in the Sunday post. Sheri and Destin made me a beautiful breakfast in bed. Scrambled eggs with onions, spinach, and cheese, a couple strips of bacon, and a glass of OJ. It was really good, and a total surprise.
Life is good...:)

Errand Day
Well, as it usually does with us, our sloth day, turned into an errand day. We went to look at some townhomes in Bradburn Village in Westminster. They were really nice, and the community is doing well.
We got a lot done, and it was nice being out together. Maybe even better then laying on the couch watching football all day with french onion dip and potato chips. :-)

Pain In The Mouth
A little drama in the Hirsch household this weekend. Sheri woke up with a wicked toothache on Thursday night. She has had pain off an on for awhile using Aleve and Orajel to fight it, but this time it was too much.
She was able to get into a dentist as a walk-in on Friday morning. She got some x-rays and her wisdom teeth are pushing the rest of her teeth. One is almost coming in vertical. They have pushed so much that two of her molars have cracked. Underneath she has some decay going on as well. Basically, her teeth are 80 years old...:-)
The dentist gave her some medicine for the pain and an antibiotic to fight the infection. It definitely seems to be working. She is feeling better but has a long dental road ahead. We are looking at two root canals, two temporary crowns, wisdom teeth removed, and then permanent crowns.
It makes my mouth hurt just thinking about it. ::Dr. Meyers or Nathan - if you are reading this, could we get a second opinion? :-) ::
What's the deal with all the mouth pain in the family? I hope that I don't come down with TMJ or something.
Destin has actually had a great week. He's broken his calorie intake for the past three days, and probably will again today. It's amazing to see the effects of the surgery. We are excited to see him get back to his solids.
We had Karter's 1st birthday party today at Ken and Kristin's restaurant. It was fun. He got some great loot, and it was nice to see everyone who came. Then, Sheri had a baby shower for Kathy Huettl. So, Destin and I bached it for awhile.
Tomorrow, we are going to log some serious sloth time. We've been going at a pretty swift pace the last couple weeks. It's going to be nice...
