Play Group And A Touch On Food
It's been a quick week. I can't believe tomorrow is Friday. The week has been good for us. Destin went to play group today, and had a good time. There was a girl name Destiny there today. They ended up playing together, and all the parents thought it was cute, "Destin and Destiny".
I know I mentioned earlier that I was going to talk about what foods Destin has been trying. Today we tried some veggie stew today. He wasn't a big fan, nice gag reflex going on. Sheri has also tried some of those jarred dinners, Spaghetti and Meat Sauce and another pasta one. Destin seems to like the flavor of those, but doesn't like that they have little bits to chew. This weekend we may try to make another smoothie for him. Maybe we'll grind up some Hungry Jack casserole with it as well.
I will keep you posted...

Quick Update
The weekend was good. Sheri and I went on a date on Saturday night. We went to Andale Restaurant in Northglenn and we went to the Pat Green concert. We had a ball. Kristin(MK), Ken, and Karter came over to hang out with the pea packer. They said he was an angel. :-)
It was beautiful here today. The three of us went to our friend Bryan's new deli, Frisco's. We saw the whole place and had a good chat with B. The rest of the afternoon was spent walking around the Belmar mall. It was a good day.
I'm hoping to do a few entries this week about new foods Destin is trying. It's been pretty fun.

Two Crack Ups
Pretty juiced for time still, but here are two things that Destin has been doing lately that are hilarious.
Grunts like he's getting punched in the stomach
He does this whenever. Sometimes he'll go on for a few minutes with an "Ew" sound like he is taking gut punches.
Eating with his mouth open
We don't know if it's because we've experimented with a couple different foods, or if he just likes doing it now. He only does it with his baby food, but he'll smack his lips until he swallows that spoonful.
Sheri got a couple more foods to experiment with. Becky gave her a few pointers. She got an avacado; strawberries, yougurt, ice cream, and bananas for smoothies; and some whipped cream and easy cheese. The last two are mainly for his high chair table. Becky thought it would be a good idea to get him to play with some food. We usually put some Cheerios down, but since he's not chewing, creamier foods may be a little bit better. He did seem to like the whipped cream, but wasn't too impressed with the easy cheese.
Anyway, it's been pretty fun to do these little food experiments. I'm actually hoping (and not hoping) for a reaction like the eggs again. Just for a good chuckle.

3 Day Weekend
In celebration of Martin Luther King Day, I had a 3 day weekend. It's been nice.
The appointment with Dr. Dickerson was good. He weighed in at 18 lbs. 14 ounces. A wiry little lad. He only gained 12 ounces over the past month and a half which was a little bit concerning to Dr. Dickerson. It's not as if he's losing weight, or not gaining at all, but she would like to see him pack on a little more.
So, we are going to try to get some more protein in his diet. I tried to give him some eggs on Saturday. His reaction to them was complete and utter disgust. It was pretty funny actually. I gave him a little taste and he thought for a minute; then the frown came; next, the chewing frown finally followed by the gag. We'll give the eggs a rest for awhile...:)
He hasn't been a big fan of the jarred meats, but we are giving them another try. The pea packer has seem to taken a shine to the beef with veggies, so we are going to push that. We are also going to make the transition to whole milk from formula in a phased approach.
That is the latest. I'm hoping to have more time to write tomorrow night(story of my life). There are a couple things he's been doing lately that are absolute crack ups.

Fast Week
Man. I can't even remember what day it is. I guess it's been a good week. :) No, it really has. Destin went to his play group this morning and met some new friends; Dorothy and Jonah.
His appointment with Dr. Allen went really well. Dr. Allen didn't see any issues with Destin's palate, and we won't have to see him for another 6 months. They decided to reschedule the hearing test because they wanted to do more of a behavioral test. This requires two audiologists, one to do the testing and one to play with him. It helps to determine how Destin reacts to different sounds while going about his somewhat normal routine. Sheri said he was getting pretty restless at the tail end of the appointment, so that was the deciding factor for the rescheduling.
He's been out ever since they got home. I'm almost scared to go disturb his slumber, but we would like to get a little more grub in him.
Speaking of which, he has his weigh in and mini check up with Dr. Dickerson tomorrow. I will hopefully be able to post the "tale of the tape" tomorrow evening. We did get some preliminary numbers from Dr. Allen's office, but I'll wait to share until we get the hard data.

Back In Our Routine
Nothing too major to report. Although, Destin did have one of the biggest burps we've every heard yesterday. I suppose that is newsworthy...:)
We got a new car seat. We've got it in as best we can and Sheri is going to take it over to the Fire Station to get it checked out. Destin still needs to be rear facing since he's a little under 20 pounds. However, he does have a weigh in at the doctor's this week. Maybe he put on some holiday weight.
The week ahead is going to be a busy one; Becky is coming over on Tuesday for her regular visit, we have an appointment with Dr. Dickerson as mentioned earlier, and we have another check up with Dr. Allen on the progress of his repaired palate.
I have a TON of pictures to put up from the holidays. I will be trying to get to those this week as well as keeping everyone up to date.
Maybe I did have a few things to report...:)

The Holidays Revisited
Okay, I don't have as much time as I wanted, but here it goes...
Picking up from where I left off on the 20th, Destin's visit with Santa went really well. We got a great photo of him and St. Nick.
My birthday was fun. A few of my buddies came over and we made a bunch of pasta. I had to work most of the day, but Sheri and I did sneak in a visit to Fresh Market.
Christmas Eve we spent at Uncle T's. We did fondue for dinner. Cheese with bread; Beef in oil; and chocolate with pound cake and bananas. So yummy.
Christmas was probably our busiest day. The first thing we did was open Destin's gifts. Then, We went to visit Destin's great grandmother, Grandma Larsen. Next, we had dinner with the fam and Tyler's roommate, Colby, joined us. After the meal, we FINALLY opened our presents and stocking stuffers. It was a little jumbled, but a very nice Christmas day.
We were in Chicago from the 26th through the 29th. We stayed at Sheri's Aunt Kathy and Ralph's place. Sunday night, the 26th, we had a get together with Sheri's side of the family. We had beef sandwiches and sausages from Portillo's. On Monday, we spent the afternoon with Grandma Betty, Sheri's grandmother, Destin's great grandmother. We had lunch at her place and she showed us around a little bit. Monday night we had a get together with the Larsen/Anderson side of the family at Aunt Lou, Marcia, and Emily's place. Tuesday, I spent the day working(not bitter at all!) while Sheri, Destin, Dave, and Linda went to Oakbrook. That night we had a great taco dinner at the Sheenan's house. Wednesday, we went home.
It was really wonderful to see family and friends while we were in Chicago, especially with the little pea packer with us.
So we were back in Tennessee for the new year. It was spent with "the dinner group" :-). Sheri and I cooked a big dinner for everyone. We had an absolute ball.
Getting back to Colorado was a bit of a chore. Our flight on the 3rd was cancelled, along with our flight on the 4th. So we switched to Frontier for another flight on the 4th which was delayed. We made it home at midnight that night.
Whew....That, in a nutshell was our holiday season. We were very lucky to start early with a Christmas celebration at Grandma and Grandpa Stackpole's on the 12th of December.
And Destin, the champ, made it through all the travel and hussle and bussle taking everything in stride. We are beginning to think he likes airports!
Thanks to all our family and friends who made the holidays and the closing of 2004 a wonderful time for us!

That Was Fast...
Well, I made it through the holidays without a post. Not really my plan, but you know how it gets sometimes.
We had some wonderful times this holiday season. None that I will go into now, but soon (hopefully tomorrow night).
In the meantime, I hope that the new year is starting out great for you.
