18 Months Today!

Destin is 18 months today. Woo hoo! A year and a half; almost a toddler :).

We believe that he's on the other side of his stomach bug. He's eating much better, although we think he may be cutting some new teeth because he hasn't been a big fan of his bottle.

We are just glad that he is not sick anymore. That is never fun.

In other news, we are moving! We are not going too far, just a few miles away. Sheri went over to the the keys today. It's going to be a gradual move throughout the month of March. It sounds good at this point; I'm hoping that it still sounds good in a couple weeks.

The Sick Saga

It appears that Destin is getting on the other side of his little stomach flu. He drank a lot of juice today for Sheri and ate some apple sauce.

We have been in close contact with Dr. Dickerson's nurse staff all week. The plan is to try some different foods tomorrow, and milk will be back on the menu for Friday.

He's still a little sluggish, but it's good to see him start to get some of his gusto back. We are going to take a break from play group tomorrow.

The rest of the week will just be getting the pea packer back to full strength.

Sick Destin

The pea packer has a bit of a stomach issue at the moment. He spent pretty much all day on the couch with Mama. It started around 3:30 AM Saturday morning. That wasn't a fun night in the Hirsch household.

He's seems to be sleeping soundly now. We just hope that he is going to get past this tomorrow. Stomach issues are never fun.

I'm home from work tomorrow. Looking forward to hanging out.

Picky, Picky, Picky...

Destin wasn't a big fan of his bottle today. We think he may be getting a couple more toothers. He did great with his food; he just kept pushing the bottle away.

I'm hoping that it's going to be a lazy rest of the weekend. I have Monday(President's Day) off, so it could be an extra lazy weekend! I only wish...:) I do have a few things to keep me busy. I'm reorganizing our music files; I have some work to do on a friends web site; and I have a monsterous back log of pictures to put on this site. Oh well, it is all stuff I enjoy.

Quick Post

I know that I haven't been on for 5 days and it breaks my heart.

This week has been good. Becky worked with him and his walker today. She said that he is doing really well.

He is wanting to stand and pull up on things more and more. His new move is to get on his hands and feet with his butt pointing directly up. Then, he'll look behind him through his legs. It's a pretty nice move.

That's all I have for now. As always, I hope to post more tomorrow...

A Little Stroll

Destin took a stroll down the hallway today with one of his walkers. He had a little help from Mom and Dad, but not too much. He would push the walker with his hands until his arms were fully extended, and then he would take a few steps to catch up to it. Then he would grunt. :-)

He had a good day at his play group. Sheri passed out his valentine cards to everyone.

Still has a touch of the sniffles, but still not slowing him down.

Sorry for the quick entry. Got to get the pea packer fed one more time tonight. Later!

The Sniffles

Destin has a little case of the sniffles. Doesn't seem to affect him much, he hasn't slowed down for a minute. Well, he has taken a couple more naps, but that's about it.

It has been a few days since I've been on, but not much has changed. Destin is still enjoying the whole milk, and still trying to figure out different foods.

He likes to push things around while on his knees. He'll push his walker, piano, and other toys. That's been a fairly new thing in the past couple weeks.

We had his behavioral hearing test yesterday. The test consisted of two audiologists playing sounds and talking on one side of Destin. The results were okay. They said he wasn't hearing out of his left ear as well as his right ear. So he could possibly have some type of hearing loss on his left side.

It's been a frustrating journey with his ears. If you'll allow me to vent for a minute...:) First of all, as we were being discharged from the hospital in Boulder the hearing people came over and wouldn't leave us alone. So that was our first annoyance.

We had multiple tests at Children's with no real conclusive results. This was somewhat due to his cleft which we were told could affect hearing. During these tests, the doctor's noticed that Destin was getting a ton of fluid in his ears. So the decision was made to put tubes in his ears.

Then, we did a test called an ABR. This is a fairly involved test where the patient needs to be sedated. The results were that he was hearing everything he needed to hear.

So that brings us to Monday's appointment, and the audiologists are saying that he's not hearing all he needs to from the left side. They said that he didn't react to sounds on his left side.

I did a mini test myself that night. I said "La La La" in a regular voice sitting on his left side, and he turned to look at me. Hopefully because he heard me from his left ear and not to say,"Daddy, you are a weirdo".

Anyway, I am by no means trying to say that he does not have any hearing loss. If he does, and there is something we can do to correct it, I'm all for it. I just wish someone could tell us if he does for sure.

Okay, that's all I have to say about that.

We are expecting Destin's new friend, Dylan, to come over and play tomorrow. He is 3 months old. Kathy, Dylan's Mom, is going to call Sheri in the morning. We don't want to have them over if Destin's sniffles get worse.

Sniffles are no fun...:)

Sleepyhead

Destin went to bed pretty early tonight. The past few nights he has kind of fought going to bed. He doesn't really get too fussy, he just wants to be up so he doesn't miss anything.

The switch to whole milk has been pretty good. We are using Poly Vi Sol per Dr. Dickerson's request. Just making sure he gets enough of his vitamins.

We haven't tried any new foods in the past couple days. It was getting to the point where he would push away anything on a spoon. So we wanted to make meal time a little less stressful.

He's doing great though. Hopefully I will have some of the recent pictures up by this weekend, but I can't promise anything! :-)

No More Little Bottles

Well, as of yesterday, [technically, since I'm burning the midnight oil] we've had Destin on whole milk exclusively. It wasn't a huge step for him since we have been mixing it with his formula for the past couple weeks.

The big deal to me is that we put away the little 80ml bottles that we've been using since his birth. It's crazy to think back to when he could barely finish one of those.

I know that we have a lot of "putting aways" in our future, and we've had a few in the past. Which is a bit scary. Putting away the little bottles is almost as big as putting his obturator away; just because we've used them for so long.

The whole milk switch has been good. His calorie count has dipped a little bit, but that was as expected. Hopefully, we can get another jar of food in him a day.

That's all I have for now. I'm going to bed. Good night!
