Brief Hiatus

All apologies for the hiatus as of late.

Part of it was spent in Southwestern Utah with Destin's godfather(a.k.a. God Pop).

I have a whole bunch of updates to talk about, however it's a little too late to go into them tonight. So, I'm afraid the hiatus will continue for one more night.

The Week In Review

Where to begin?

Monday and Tuesday of this week were pretty vanilla. Sheri and Destin just had their normal routine.

On Wednesday, at a park by our place, Destin got his first kiss. She was a cute 3 and 1/2 year old named Olivia Grace Wilson. Olivia wanted to push Destin on the swing. After they played, she gave him a little peck on the cheek. Destin is a lady killer...:)

Yesterday, Destin went on his first job interview. We aren't going to let the poor kid have a childhood! Actually, he was tagging along with Sheri when she went to talk to a couple of our friends about some part time work. They approached her last week to see if she would be interested. For most of their conversation, Destin crawled around the office; typical D-man :).

As for as the job, Sheri's going to give it a shot for a month. The company has a few people going on vacation and she's going to step into a client services role. She will be able to do most of the work from home, but they've also said that Destin is welcome in the office. Those should be some interesting days for the pea packer.

Destin has been starting to drink a little more from a cup this week. He takes a couple sips; giggles; and pushes the cup away. It's encouraging and funny at the same time. We believe that he's starting to realize that it's okay to bring food to his mouth; which is wonderful to see.

He's also been doing this funky hop lately. He'll be in his crawling position and push up with his arms and legs; kick his legs out and then land on his hands and knees again. It looks pretty painful to me, but Destin seems to like it. His knees can take it though. They have been toughened up since crawling has been his mode of transportation for so long.

The weather today has been gorgeous. The three of us are going to head to the pool for a late spring swim. Wanda the Whale might be making an appearance. Happy days...

Busy Week For The Hirsch Fam

This is a teaser post for things to come. I was up a little too late last night being a geek; attending the midnight showing of Star Wars: Episode III, Revenge Of The Sith.

The weather has been beautiful in Colorado this week, so Sheri and Destin have be out and about. They've had some pretty crazy adventures that I will hopefully go into further detail tomorrow night.

Need sleepy...:)

Weekend Update

It was a pretty lazy rest of the weekend for us. We went down to Goodson Rec Center for Elodie's birthday today. Stacey and Jimi rented out the gymnastics room for her 3rd birthday.

We had a good time. Destin was a little unsure about the floor at first, but once he got used to it, he was all over the place.

The three of us ran a couple errands after the party and came home and vegged. Which was nice.

The weather is going to be beautiful this coming week. Sheri and the D-man are going to be able to spend some time outside. Woo hoo!

Destin's New Antics

So much has been promised on this site, yet I've failed to deliver on the majority of those promises. In spite of that fact, I thank you for coming back and reading my babble about the fam.

I wanted to take an entry and talk about the D-man exclusively.

Since we have started the cranio-sacral therpy with Cindy at the Amaryllis Clinic, we have seen some good improvements with Destin. This can be attributed to Cindy or just that it has been Destin's time to do the things he's been doing. Sheri and I believe that it is the combination of the two.

What exactly is he doing? He's grabbing for his feet more; he sits up more often and more straight; he wants to walk with his walker humpteen times a day; and he's been making different sounds.

We are estatic that we are seeing these results, and we are hoping to continue our time with Cindy. The area where we continue to have issues is feeding. Not that Destin isn't getting enough food, but is he getting the right food and drink?

He is the Gerber champion with fruits; he is very much less interested in vegetables. We still have to give him "milk soup". For those of you who aren't familiar with the term, it means that we use a bowl and spoon for him to "drink" milk. :) These issues go past "Oh, Destin is just picky." Sheri and I know that it has a lot to do with the trama he's had in his mouth. We are still unsure on whether or not we should employ the help of a feeding clinic. This is something I will be talking about in upcoming posts, so I'll move on.

Becky from Early Childhood Connections brought over a device that functions as a communication tool. It records voice sounds that are played when the big button on top is pressed. Becky called it the "Big Mac".

For our first test, we are using Destin's new favorite toy in the whole world, his walker. Sheri recorded her voice saying, "More, please" on the "Big Mac". When the D-man is walking and gets stopped somewhere with his walker, Sheri will come over to him and ask him if he wants more walking. Destin in turn will hit the Big Mac about three times to tell her that he REALLY wants more walking. :) He seems to be catching on.

I think that is enough for now. Too much thinking for me on a Saturday night. I'm hoping to be back tomorrow with a recap of the weekend.

2 Years Ago Today...

...there was 6 inches of snow on the ground. Today? 82 degrees and sunny. It's all about timing..:)

Sheri and I had a nice dinner tonight for our anniversary. Pork chops with parmesan potatoes, and a salad. We had a larger celebration last Saturday.

Grandma and Grandpa Stackpole took care of the pea packer. We did some shopping and had a great lunch at Whole Foods Market. That night, dinner was at Little Ollie's in Cherry Creek.

It was a great day. We stayed at Grandma and Grandpa's through the weekend, celebrating Mother's Day. We had some good BBQ and fried pickles at Bennett's on Sunday.

Back From Austin

I had a wonderful weekend in Austin last weekend. I missed the fam a bunch, but I heard that the weather was nothing to be desired. Luckily for me, the weather in Texas was beautiful. (Rubbing it in)

The reason I went down there was for the wedding of my friend, Duncan. It was the second marriage for both he and his wife, Amanda. They wanted a very small ceremony; it was only the two of them, Amanda's mother and myself. The day was perfect and the ceremony was beautiful. I was honored to be a part of it.

Sheri and Destin were busy bees back on the homefront. The pea packer has a great visit on Friday with Cindy at the Amaryllis Clinic. Sheri talked with her about continuing his time there. (More to come on this, hopefully tomorrow!) Saturday, they ran a bunch of errands and did some grocery shopping. On Sunday, they went down to visit with Grandma and Grandpa Stackpole. Apparently, it was a coupon clipping party with dinner on the side...:). I think Russ and Destin probably wanted to escape!

That's all I have time for tonight. Have a good rest of your Monday!
