Vacation Is Close
We had some great weather this weekend. I was on the golf course Saturday morning for a best ball scramble. It was sponsored by Abacus (Work). Our team did pretty well; we tied for 8th out of 22 teams.
Saturday afternoon we had a wedding celebration for our friends Amity and Gary. It was good to see them. Destin enjoyed their house a lot. He really dug the stairs down to the basement. We went up and down at least 10 times. Great cardio workout!
Today all three of us were pretty sloth. It was a breezy, cloudy day, so we opened all the windows and hung out. We talk a walk right before bedtime for the D-man. He was in his jeep so he was pretty content.
Destin and Sheri hung out with Karter and Kristin on Thursday. They went to the mall and played around. They are quite the duo and have been buds for awhile.
He had a good visit with Cindy this week and well as a nice visit with Jen at PT. He goes on "vacation" for all his therapies next week, and the two weeks following.
Most of the upcoming week will be spent getting ready for the big trip to Florida and Tennessee. It's going to be nice to get away for awhile.

Big Milestone Tomorrow
Correction: Tomorrow Thursday(6/22) will be Destin's last day at the Early Childhood Connections playgroup. He has been attending for just about 2 years. We have made some great friends with the families that have participated along with the therapists involved.
Today, Destin had a dentist appointment. Sheri said that he did well. He is only missing 4 teeth; 2 molars on the bottom and the two canines on the top. The dentist said that she could feel them growing though. Pretty soon he'll have all his chompers. The D-man also got a teeth cleaning and some fluoride treatment.
Before the appointment Sheri and Destin went to the Cherry Creek Mall to walk around and hang out in the play area there. There was a boy about Destin's age that had a fruit roll-up in his mouth. Destin walked over to him; grabbed the fruit roll-up out of the child's mouth and stuck it in his own! Sheri apologized to the other mother, who was very understanding. I do have to say that I wish I could have seen it though.

Happy Father's Day!
Not a very novel title, but I hope that all the dad's out there had a great day. I tried to think a lot today about how much I enjoy being a dad, especially Destin's dad.
Russ and Nancy came up this afternoon. We hung out by the pool and had dinner at Ted's. I received my annual father's day gift of fresh herbs. Nancy took them back down to their house as she is going to take care of them for me while we are on vacation in a couple weeks.
My dad and brother played golf today. I believe that they are secretly trying to leave me in the dust when we play in a couple of weeks.

Square It Off
I've missed so much in the month of May. I think it's time to square it off and move forward. Oh well. I did get a few posts up. I wanted to mention one more funny eating story:
We were staying down at Grandma and Grandpa Stackpole's place. Nancy was watching Destin and he was playing with Lucy's treats. They are in a tuperware and sealed pretty good. Nancy stepped out of the room for a minute and heard the dog treats on the tile floor; Destin probably had banged it on the ground hard enough for the top to come off. So she walks back into the kitchen and he's eating the dog biscuits! It's a dilemma, with all his eating issues do we tell him to stop or tell him good job for putting things in his mouth? Maybe we can cover them in chocolate next time...:)
Squared off.
June is a busy, busy month for the Hirsch household. I guess I could insert any month name into the prior sentence and it would hold true. Crazy stuff. In the coming week Sheri and Destin have the regular gammit of therapies; Sheri has a concert and a bridal shower over next weekend; and I have my work schedule. We'll make it through as we always do.
Today, Destin and I bached it most of the day. Sheri meet her friend Michele, who is in from Tampa, for a pedicure and lunch. We took a late afternoon walk to the park nearby and Destin did some swinging. We made ribs for dinner. They were very tasty.
Destin continues to make us laugh and make us proud. One of the biggest improvements I've seen lately is his non-verbal communication. For example, yesterday he and I were in the kitchen and he looked at me like he wanted something. I said, "Destin, can you show me?", and I extended my hand for him to lead me. He grabbed it and took me to his toy shelf. He looked up to his Sit and Spin which is on the top shelf. I asked him if that is what he wanted while pointing to it and he smiled. It's amazing to see him learn how to communicate in different ways.
