Buffett Songs

Destin spent some of the weekend down at Grandma and Grandpa Stackpole's house. Sheri and I were getting the bathrooms ready for the dry wallers who will be coming to the house tomorrow. Our powder room and upstairs bathrooms are disaster areas at the moment. I don't know if I ever said it on here, but we decided that we want to re-texture both bathrooms as the current walls are too beat up.

Anyway, that was most of our weekend. Getting rid of the old stuff and picking out new stuff.

Destin has been fighting a bit of a cold the past couple days. He went down to sleep early this evening. I didn't even get to sing him a song.

It has become the routine that I sing him to sleep every night. He falls asleep to Jimmy Buffett songs, mainly The Wino And I Know. As soon as his books are done he positions himself to be picked up by his daddy. I can't complain too much, I enjoy it just as much as he does.

Geek Talk And Destin's New Game

I am slowly in the process of updating a couple sections of the site. I wanted to include a video of Destin from the holidays in this post as a foreshadow. I've got most of the videos from the site uploaded to Google Video. I am going to use Google to host and stream the videos. For those of you who have viewed the current videos on here know that it takes awhile to download them because they are not being streamed; you have to download the full file each time. This change will make it easier to watch the videos online. I will still offer a download page, too. Here is Destin and his Low Rider from Grandpa Stackpole:

In the new house we have some motion detectors for a security system that was in place already. They are the type that light up when they determine motion in the room. Destin loves them. His favorite is the one that is slightly above front door. He'll hang out in the front room and make it go on and off.

What he has really come to love though is riding on my shoulders and being extra close to the motion detector. He'll walk over to me, his faithful steed, and suggest that he needs to be picked up. In the middle of picking him up, he will twist his body so that it is easier for me to put him on my shoulders. We will then gallop around the front room making the motion detector light up.

I have to cut him off at 10 times. I had arbitrarily picked 7 before, but got some flack from Sheri that it was a funny number. 7 was so 2006; 10 is for 2007. The fun ends on the 10th go around when we get closest to the detector. I lift him off my shoulders and hold him up so he can give the device a smack.

It's a barrel of monkeys in the Hirsch household, but most of you knew that already. :)

Errands And A Surpise Guest At Feeding School

So the downstairs bathroom is a mess. There must be a home improvement project going on! The sink is now residing in the laundry room and part of the toilet will be coming out tonight. We didn't make as much progress as we wanted to this weekend, but isn't that always the case?

Lowe's was on the errands list this weekend. I needed some more tape and caulk for the bathroom job. Sheri had a new lighting fixture picked out there as well.

We ran to Costco and got the meat stores back up to full capacity. Always a fun trip. Destin rode on my shoulders for most of the errand. He did down to spend some time by the cakes because there was a mirror on the side of the cooler. He would look at himself then run around in a circle laughing and start again.

Yesterday, I was able to go to feeding school with Destin and Sheri at the Toomey clinic. It was good to see Susan, his feeding therapist, and what the three of them are working on. He is getting better with using a spoon and the "bite and pull" method. He had some pudding, peanut butter (both smooth and chunky), and honey. All of which were consumed with minimal help from us. Susan cut up some jicama to have with the peanut butter. Turkey bacon and licorice also made an appearance. What else goes better with jicama and peanut butter, right? :)

It is great to see him interact with all those textures and flavors. While isn't not the most appetizing combination when you look at the list, it does give Destin a good "tool set" to experiment with.

Dental Report

Destin's dentist appointment went well yesterday. He doesn't have any cavities and his teeth look good. This is a relief to Sheri because she doesn't want Destin to get her dental genes. The dentist took some x-rays of his bottom set of teeth. Destin has two teeth on either side that appear to have grown together. The x-rays showed that they are actually two crowns with one root. Sheri said that he did really well with the x-rays. They even put those uncomfortable paper things in the side of his mouth. I don't even like those.

The doctor said that this isn't a foreshadowing to how his adult teeth will be. He has seen it with some kids and their adult teeth are fine. It's not a big issue for the D-man, I just thought it was interesting. :)

Destin will be heading to school today. It makes me happy to know that he enjoys it. I believe that Sheri is going to use her break to run some errands and pull down some wallpaper in our powder room. Fun!

Happy New Year

I hope that everyone is having a good start to 2007. I know that we are. We have had a TON of snow in the Denver area these past couple months. You may have seen it on the national news. We have received more in the past couple storms than we received all of last winter. I have become an expert with a snow shovel. Which is a good thing because they are calling for more snow this weekend.

The holidays were good to us. We were able to celebrate with both sets of grandparents in our new home. It doesn't get any better than that.

I've been trying to get some time to revamp the site with some new pictures. I'm hoping to change some things this month, but we'll see.

Our next house project is painting our powder room. Sheri has begun ripping down the wallpaper; her favorite thing in the world! Once that is done we'll get in there and paint. We are going with a caramel color (with the help of Linda Hancock) and white.

Destin is back into the swing of things with therapy and school. He has a dentist appointment today along with a fitting for some "night braces". These braces will continue to stretch his legs; they are a replacement for the casts we used a little bit ago.

As always, thanks for stopping by. We are excited to see what 2007 brings for all of us.
