Fire Drill

Destin had his first fire drill at school yesterday. Sheri actually got there a little early to pick him up, and he was holding one of his teacher's hands while standing in line to get back into the classroom. Gold Star!

Near And Far

I've noticed recently that Destin enjoys playing with me as much as he enjoys playing near me. I'm sure most parents notice this at some point. I, or Sheri, may not be in direct interaction with him, but he wants us there; even if it is just to be in the same room together.

It's very human to desire that. We all enjoy the presence of the people we love. Conversation, sharing a meal, watching a sporting event; the common theme is just being in the presence of one another.

It is close to the antithesis of another thought I've had recently. I have found myself giving Destin a little space. I don't know if Sheri has done this as well. A corny example is letting him go two houses down with his lawn mower toy before going after him instead of being two steps behind him the whole way. My comfort level is allowing me to let go a little; to trust.

An interesting juxtaposition; parenting is pretty cool...

Happy <3 Day

Destin celebrated Valentine's day at school today. Since he doesn't go on Wednesdays (which would have been the real holiday, of course) his class celebrated today. Sheri put together some treats for him to deliver to his classmates along with his valentines.

In other news, the downstairs bathroom has been completed. There are a couple touch ups that I need to make, but that is it. I've put some pictures up on Flickr of the finished product. We are happy with it. It was definitely livable before; but we wanted to but our touch on it. There was a checker patterned wallpaper initially. We didn't really notice at first, but it really closed in the room. The colors we chose (white and caramel) really opened it up. The floor is a green stone tile. It is a little more showcased with the bright colors.

Enough home improvement talk for now. There will definitely be more as we are hoping to start work on Destin's bathroom this weekend.
