More Appointments

Destin had an appointment with Joyce, his rehab doctor, today. We wanted to have a check up with her as we got some conflicting reports with the last doctor we saw. It mainly centered around Destin walking on his tippy-toes, which is the medical term, by the way. :)

We are going to get a little more aggressive with his physical therapy again. Both Joyce and Jen (PT) have noticed that he has gotten a little tight. We are going to try another round of Botox and serial casting to help stretch his legs out and retrain his brain to be more flat footed. We are also going to try to schedule PT every week again.

We have schedule the appointment for early December. It wasn't the greatest news to get today, but it will help Destin out. The other option we received from the other doctor was surgery; however we all feel that less invasive measures are worth a shot. The option of surgery may not be ruled out entirely, it may be beneficial for him in the future, but at this point it is not a necessity.

Feeding School & Speech Report

This is a little behind but Destin had a great visit with Ms. Susan at the Toomey feeding clinic on Monday. He had chips, cheetos, a few bites of corndog (for his Mama), grapes, OLIVES, cucumbers, and a mozarella cheese stick.

The olives were the coolest by far. I guess he took a few halves and tried them. Sheri and Susan also cut them up into a tapenade. Fancy Schmancy.

He had an evaluation at the new Children's hospital on Wednesday to see if he would be a candidate for a certain type of electronic speech aid. The answer was yes, and work will begin on this speech aid soon. The first iteration will be fairly simple either a "yes/no" or "stop/go" functionality. This particular device can be fit with additional templates that can offer more choices, but it is best to start small and build from there.

School has been good for him this week. Actually one of his main teachers, Sara was able to make it to Children's for the speech evaluation.

Sheri is going to volunteer in Destin's class tomorrow. She tried it a couple weeks ago too. The first time Destin really wasn't able to get settled. So Sheri left for a little while and came back which seem to work well. This time, she is going to drop Destin off and wait until he is settled to come back in. It should be a good time as Sara has told Sheri that she has a number of things that she'll be doing.

Smile

It was picture day at school today for Destin. He was stylish with a sweater vest and oxford shirt. The teachers said that he did pretty good. There were several poses, standing or sitting, that we could choose from. We choose a standing one because we thought it would be easier for him, although the photographer had an easier time getting him to sit. "Still" isn't really in Destin's vocabulary yet, but his teachers said that he sat still for the picture. We are excited to get the proofs.
